Welcome to the first of two round-ups of the London Design Festival. We’ve trawled through the mountains of events to bring you an edited, albeit still pretty jam-packed, day in the East of London – and the next post will cover West London.
Start the day with a caffeine and carbohydrate hit at Allpress, an antipodean favourite now in Shoreditch. 58 Redchurch Street, E2 7DP, Open Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm, Saturday 9am – 5pm, Sunday 9am – 5pm
Then head straight to East’s London’s headline event – Tent London. Now in its sixth year, with over 200 exhibitors from 26 countries, and including Super Brands London, Tent has a strong line-up of established independents and new talent. Old Truman Brewery, Hanbury Street (off Brick Lane), E1 6QL. £10. Open: 20th – 23rd September Thursday 10am – 7pm, Friday 10am – 8pm, Saturday 10am – 8pm, Sunday 11am – 6pm.
Jasper Morrison Ltd Shop presents World Tape, an exhibition, alongside Jasper Morrison’s new range of cast iron cookware for Oigen Japan. 24b Kingsland Road E2 8DA. Free entry. Open Monday – Friday 11am – 6pm, (Tuesday 11am – 8pm), Saturday 1pm – 5pm.
After the inevitable visual overload of the morning, relax over lunch in Cafeand’s peaceful white interior. A selection of art and design magazines is for sale in case of withdrawal symptoms. 77 Redchurch Street E2 7DJ. Open Tuesday – Saturday 11am – 7pm, Sunday 11am – 6pm.
Refulled, head West into neighbouring EC to Lee Broom’s Crystal Bulb shop – an old fashioned general store with a modern twist. It comes complete with a counter, shopkeeper, sawdust floor and mirror panels reflecting the 200 crystal bulbs suspended from the ceiling. Electra House, 93 Rivington Street EC2A 3AY. Free entry. Open Monday – Saturday 10am – 8pm, (Tuesday 10am – 4pm), Sunday 11am – 6pm.
twentytwentyone presents The Wrong Shop with limited edition prints by French legends Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec and Pierre Charpin. 18c River Street, EC1R 1XN. Free entry. Open Wednesday – Saturday 9.30am – 5.30pm, Sunday 11am – 5pm.
