We have just published our latest project: Colani-2 Shoes. The shoes are designed in biodesign style. Its a tribute to Professor of Aerodynamics Luigi Colani. Made and cut from one piece of leather. Has extraordinary heels structure.

L’Alliance Française des Designers est le 1er syndicat du design pluridisciplinaire et 1er par le nombre de membres, gérants d’entreprises, indépendants ou intégrés, pour défendre et promouvoir tous les métiers du design en France et en Europe.

Convivialité rime avec simplicité. Membres ou non-membres, venez échanger, autour d’une tasse ou d’un verre*, de façon informelle. Nous coordonnons les Cafés AFD dans plusieurs villes de France, le même jour. Après le succès du mois de mars, le prochain Café aura lieu le jeudi 4 octobre 2012.

Nous n’avons pas de long discours à vous exposer, nous souhaitons vous rencontrer et être à l’écoute de vos expériences professionnelles au quotidien. Ce moment de rencontres et d’échanges autour de nos métiers doit nous permettre de recueillir vos idées, vos points de vues et vos suggestions pour alimenter les actions futures de l’AFD.

DESIHN RELATIONS

The main exhibition of 23rd Biennial of Design has been conceived by the renowned curators Margo Konings and Margriet Vollenberg (Organisation in Design). The selection of works from 27 countries shows how modern technologies, digitalisation and globalisation, as well as nature and its resources influence designers and their creative work. However the exhibition does not only expose the new and up-to-date ideas of contemporary design production, but also opens up a daring and critical cross section of everything that contemporary design reflects and describes in this very moment. What is the role of design today? How does design reflect the world around us? What is the counter-effect of design in our lives? The exhibits are divided into four main categories: technology, digitalisation, globalisation, and products; and subcategories: health; machines and processes; science (technology); back to crafts; counter reactions; data processing and graphic design (digitalisation); industrial leftovers; social/local; urban environments; and smart solutions (globalisation). The best works will receive at the opening of the biennial on 27th September 2012 BIO Design Awards.

Welcome to the first of two round-ups of the London Design Festival. We’ve trawled through the mountains of events to bring you an edited, albeit still pretty jam-packed, day in the East of London – and the next post will cover West London.

Then head straight to East’s London’s headline event – Tent London. Now in its sixth year, with over 200 exhibitors from 26 countries, and including Super Brands London, Tent has a strong line-up of established independents and new talent. Refulled, head West into neighbouring EC to Lee Broom’s Crystal Bulb shop – an old fashioned general store with a modern twist. The first Design Auction at the Venduehuis in The Hague, on October 10, 2012, draws near.
Of course we hope you will participate in the auction, and through this press release we would like to inform you of the latest developments.

Earlier we revealed that several unique seating objects, created by renowned Dutch designers, will be sold by auction with the slogan ‘a chair for charity’. With great pleasure we can now report that JAN DES BOUVRIE has been added to the list.

With an expected number of 1,800 designers and more than 300 events in nine days, DDW is the largest design event in Northern Europe. Even though during the week Eindhoven is inundated with design, most program events are clustered in three areas, each with its own character.

Area Strijp, to begin with, hosts talented and renowned designers, the manufacturing industry and the business sector, and numerous educational institutions in an industrial setting with a strong open-studio character.
Area Inner City is situated in the warm and welcoming environment of the Eindhoven inner city and presents vibrant collectives, cultural institutions, crafts and workshops - mostly under curatorship – that are focused on concept, innovation and fashion. Last but not least, Area East surprises with up-and-coming designers and dynamic designer collectives whose hands-on mentality fits perfectly into the experimental area of design enclave Section C on the outskirts of the city. Especially the latter two areas offer an evening program.

From September 19 until the 23rd Breda (NL) is the place to be!
Then the Graphic Design Festival (GDFB) takes place. The third edition of this bi-annual festival is all about visual storytelling; the contemporary designer’s visual approach to translating today’s questions to a visual narrative. With presentations in the public space, exciting exhibitions, special routes, inspiring lectures and educational workshops with 150 designers, it is a must for students and professionals. But also for anyone who wants to know more about graphic design in general and visual storytelling in particular GDFB is a real must go.

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday GDFB has a full lecture program with for example Raw Color, Rogier Arents, Super Fertile and Xavier Barrade (FR).

What does the future Musterzimmer look like? According to the integral principles of
the Swiss Werkbund in the 1920ies, Swiss designers show their vision of the essential
elements in respect to material, construction, form and function.

No Function – No Sense?

At the same time as “Musterzimmer” Depot Basel shows also the exhibition “No Function – No Sense”.
Expatriate swiss designers and artists designed objects without function and reflect thereby
their self-understanding and deal among other issues with the (supposed?) boundaries between
art and design, with function and context and with the relation between beauty and purpose.

Schweizer Werkbundes aus den 20er Jahren werden Schweizer Gestalter ihre Vision der
wesentlichen Elemente in Bezug auf Material, Konstruktion, Form und Funktion präsentieren.

No Function – No Sense?
Parallel zu den «Musterzimmern» zeigt Depot Basel die Ausstellung «No Function – No Sense?».
Im Ausland lebende Schweizer Designer und Künstler entwerfen Objekte ohne Funktion,
reflektieren dabei ihr Selbstverständnis und beschäftigen sich unter anderem mit Themen wie
den (vermeintlichen?) Grenzen zwischen Design und Kunst, mit Funktion und Kontext
und mit der Verbindung von Schönheit und Zweck.

Co-creation is the theme of Helsinki Design Week 2012. Helsinki Design Week is not simply an event to attend, but a city-wide happening that you can participate in. You can create your own design event and submit it to the programme. During the week, the events need your active participation to be successful.

Helsinki Design Week is an annual city festival for design in all the ways that design appears in our lives. Events happen all across the city and can be about traditional or industrial design, fashion, communication or even music. Lately, the festival has been expanding as its international network grows and as more and more individuals and companies suggest and plan events.

In 2012 the event will be scheduled from 6-16 September. This year the main events of Helsinki Design Week will be held in the Old Customs Warehouse in Katajanokka. Join us for galas, workshops, exhibitions, fashion shows, seminars, visits to studios and closed-for-public spaces as well as shopping. Helsinki Design Week is a part of the World Design Capital 2012 programm

The Home, Design Museum’s main autumn exhibition, is a multifaceted kaleidoscopic overview of the home as a physical space and state of mind. It considers ideals and phenomena associated with the home, from interior decoration and collecting objects to homelessness and nomadism. The focus is on the present from which conceptual contacts and links are established through the 20th century all the way to the late 19th century.

For this exhibition, the Design Museum and Swarovski are collaborating to challenge designers to explore the future of memory in the fast developing digital age. Working with some of Swarovski's previous commissions, alongside a new generation of designers, this exhibition examines the changing nature of our relationship with objects and even with time. Digital Crystal asks some of the most exciting talents in contemporary creativity to explore ways in which we can recover that lost connection we have with things, the result is 15 unique installations giving you a glimpse of the future of memory.

Inside Design Amsterdam is an annual ELLE Decoration event originally launched as a small-scale version of the international furniture fair in Milan. Inside Design puts up-and-coming talent in the starring role and offers a variety of unique exhibitions. In 2012, Inside Design Amsterdam takes place from 21 to 23 September.

The first edition of Inside Design was in 2003. The original concept put the focus on a ‘design route’ that visitors could follow throughout the city. Over the years, the event continued to grow now takes place in one central location to accommodate the many visitors, designers, brands and exhibitors that it attracts.

Inside Design Amsterdam 2012 will be located in IJburg for the second time in a row. One of the city’s newest districts, this exceptional location is filled with modern architecture and surrounded by water. If you would like to attend Inside Design, you can order tickets online a few weeks prior to the event.

La nouvelle édition de PARIS DESIGN WEEK se déroulera du lundi 10 au dimanche 16

La première PARIS DESIGN WEEK comptait 100 lieux et 180 participants, le parcours
de l’édition 2012 devrait rallier 150 lieux à travers la ville et plus de 250 participants.
Showrooms, galeries de design, galeries d’art, concept stores, agences
d’architecture et de design, institutions culturelles, mais aussi hôtels et restaurants,
présenteront dans un climat événementiel leurs dernières collections, des
expositions thématiques, des mises en avant de marques internationales, mais aussi
les dernières expressions du design culinaire selon la dynamique qui caractérise
MAISON&OBJET.
