The sharing of ideas and experiences is what moves humanity forward. We’re looking for a designer
to help us shape the future of Medium. We’re a well-funded startup in the heart of San Francisco
founded by the folks who created Blogger and Twitter.

You’ll work alongside a mature, seasoned team, reshaping the world of publishing.
We work hard, sweat the details, and celebrate our progress with cocktails on Fridays.

Process

We approach design with an empathetic and holistic view. Design doesn’t start and stop in Photoshop.
Every decision made, from vocabulary to site-flow, affects the people using Medium.
We whiteboard, we prototype, we iterate, and we get feedback from real people.
We take pride in our accomplishments, but continuously aspire for more elegant solutions.

What We Value

We strive to make Medium the most meaningful and delightful reading and writing experience possible.
In order to do so, we’ve taken a fresh approach to digital publishing, giving content the screen-weight it
deserves; our posts aren’t wrapped around a page of ads.
We believe authors should have enough control to publish thought provoking pieces without being bogged
down in type and color choices. We enable creativity through constraint.
We value tasteful, transparent typography.

Who We're Looking For

You’re passionate about creating beautiful and appropriate interfaces. You have experience with interaction
design and it’s reflected throughout your work. You lose sleep over poor kerning, and get giddy when
you see a well-shaped ligature. Ideally, you’ve worked on a shipped, web product and can proudly
point us to it.
You’ve designed for mobile (both native and mobile-web) and know the constraints and opportunities it offers.
It’s a huge plus if you can prototype your designs and have experience with HTML and CSS.
You live and breathe design but find value in life beyond the screen.
You’re at home working with a small team in a fast-paced environment.

Location

This position is located at our head office in San Francisco, California (but we’re happy
to consider people from around the world who are willing to relocate).
